What’s Your Digital Footprint?

digital footprint

this week’s lecture, we learned that there is a lot of information on the internet that we did not know about. There is even some information about yourself you may not know that is on the internet. We also discovered a website that actually pulls up information about yourself that is on the internet. Unfortunately no information came up when I searched myself on this website. During the lecture, we searched ourselves on google and took a look at what came up. I was not surprised about anything that was on there. I don’t have a very big digital footprint on the internet because I am very careful of what information is available for others to see. I am not ashamed of what is on the internet about me because I am careful and I am very conscious of my online activity and what I do post for others to see. I think some people should be more conscious about what they share on the internet because it could tarnish their appearances and abilities when applying for jobs. It is okay to share certain things like photos on the internet to communicate with others around the world but we should also keep information secure and private.

Poster Assignment

Pretty Little Liars Poster

My poster is for the TV show Pretty Little Liars. As we recently learned about typography, I decided to use that as the focal point for my poster. I used a photo of the character that the story revolves around as a template for my typography since she is a huge part of the show. I have also used phrases from the lyrics of the theme song and repeated some of the phrases that were especially important with relating to the theme of the show. I thought using the theme song as the content in my typography was necessary because it explains the theme of the show. I used the colour blue as a gradient on my typography because I liked the cool look it gave the image because blue is a cool (as in cold) colour on the colour.

What’s Your Type?

Typography is everywhere. From movies, to advertisements and album covers. Here are a few examples of how typography is used in movie posters to advertise them as well as allow the story of the movie to show through in the poster.

This movie is 27 Dresses. The typography was designed to form a shape of a dress to give the idea of what the movie was about and to appeal to the audience that was watching it. The typography was effective because it was a creative idea on how to give the audience an idea of what the movie was going to be about and definitely reached out to its demographic.

514

This movie is Hop. This typography is used in a shape of an egg since the movie revolves around the easter bunny. The typography was effective because it gives the idea of the story of the easter bunny and his journey and struggles of becoming the next easter bunny.

This movie is What’s Your Number? The typography is used in a shape of a heart with numbers to show the significance of these numbers in the movie. This movie is effective because it gives the idea of what this movie is about and it targets the audience’s age demographic.

As of right now, I do not have a relationship with typography because I do not have any experience with using it. I have thought about it as an effective way to communicate the message of the movie with the target audience.

Some Photoshop Tutorials

HEARTSTAR

LEAF

So is it just me or are working on the tutorials for the digital media lab really fun? It doesn’t even feel like I am in a class since I am enjoying myself so much. I love walking into class every week knowing we will be learning something different. I love using photoshop but I wouldn’t call myself an expert on the program. I love learning the new things I could do with using photoshop. This week, we learned about the optimization of images, using some of the different tools in the program like the quick selection tool, as well as learning how to work with the opacity of an image. I cannot wait until I get to learn more tricks in the next class as well as putting my skills towards the upcoming assignment!

Las Vegas Post Card

So in the second lab of Digital Media Production, the class was given a really fun tutorial of remaking a postcard you’d see being sold in Las Vegas. I really like using photoshop so I was super excited for this tutorial. We were already given all the photos that we would need and all we had to do was replicate the photo that was shown to us. Pretty simple? I thought I knew my way around photoshop pretty well, for using the simple things. I found myself asking a lot of questions. There were new things I’ve never tried before as well as different ways of doing things that actually made the job a bit easier. The tutorial was really fun. I will definitely continue playing around with photoshop before the next lab.

Digital Media

First Digital Media lecture. It was very interesting to learn more than what was just “assumed” in media before sitting in a lecture. I am still amazed at how intelligent the professors are and not at all those scary, intimidating professors that are portrayed in movies and on tv. They are so fun to talk to, and so interesting to listen to. I never feel like I am at school but just learning more about what I am interested in and what I love.

When I would hear or see the term Digital Media prior to the lecture, I would have thought of it as the simple term to put advertising as well as the editing of content in the media under one category. Well I was wrong. I’ve realized that before experiencing these classes, I had the assumption that everything was simple. I knew that there was a lot of work that went into every aspect of media but I did not know all of the detail and specifics that went into it as well. To be honest, I have very little to no experience in the digital media world. But that does not keep me from being interested in it as well as continuing to be determined to know learn more about it. I think every RTA student should take a course like this one. I believe everyone should know what digital media is and have experience in it no matter what stream they continue to follow. As an RTA student, I have the great opportunity to take this course and I want to continue to learn about how it is used and how it is important in the industry. By the end of this course, I have challenged myself to learn not only more information about the importance of digital media, but also become very comfortable with the programs used such as photoshop, illustrator and after effects. I think I am most excited to learn more about using those programs.

I am really excited to see what has changed not only with my own growth during my first year of university but also my growth of knowledge in this course by the time the semester comes around.

This is Me

“If you aren’t interested in music, why are you in Media Production?” No, I’m not a huge fan of music but I have a strong liking towards tv. I can’t go a day without watching my favourite tv shows like Pretty Little Liars, New Girl, and especially Big Brother. I’ve had many people ask me why I am interested in media when I do not have an interest in all aspects of media. I tell them if you have passion in something, even in one stream of it, pursue it. And that is exactly what I am doing- or at least trying to do. I love tv. My dream job is to be a co- producer on Big Brother Canada. I could die happy if that dream becomes a reality (LOL) I love the reality tv and how it is live. Although it is scripted, anything can happen on live television.

Sitting on the couch watching tv is not my only interest. I enjoy figure skating and have actually been skating competitively for 11 years. I have recently given it a break to focus on school and managing a job at the same time, since commenting an hour and a half both ways could be a b**ch. I am not a very active individual, I spent all of high school at school from all day classes to late night tech rehearsals from plays, to musicals, to concerts. Being President of my high school’s Tech Crew was the best thing I could have done during those four years of my life. I loved high school. Every time I thought of the day I was going to be graduating and moving on to bigger and better things in university, I panicked. I was in a place of so much comfort, I didn’t want to experience being on the outside of a huge new life in university. But- walking on campus on the first day of school and being introduced to all my new professors made me realize that this is the first day of the rest of my life and that it was going to be awesome. I was going to pursue what I loved doing and hopefully get a little bit closer to my dream job.

Writing blogs is also new to me. I was never that Facebook messaging, instagramming what I’m eating, tweeting what I’m doing, blogging my feelings kinda gal. All of the social networking was as new to me as 200 student lectures in a movie theatre.  Kind of bizaar to say the least. Any way, I’m giving it a shot so This is Me.
